How to Do Salsa Dance Workouts

Working out is important to good health, but it's hard to make time in your schedule when you don't enjoy exercise. Fortunately, you can learn how to salsa and have a lot of fun while working out with salsa dance workouts.

How to Do Salsa Dance Workouts

Stretch first. Before you do any salsa dance workouts you will want to stretch and warm up your muscles. A good way to do this is to walk for 15 minutes or so and then stretch your legs and arms. You will then be prepared to do your salsa dance workout. When your muscles are warm they will respond better and you will find it is easier to learn to salsa when you are warmed up!

Start moving with basic salsa steps. The basic salsa step is really easy and it will be the basis of all salsa dance workouts. Once you have the basic steps down you will be able to move on to more advanced steps. To do this step all you need to do is to tap the left foot when you hear the first beat and then step forward with the same foot. Then, rock back on your right foot and step back to the left to close the sequence. This is the basic forward movement and there is also a back basic movement. This is just the opposite and you tap to the right, step back to the right, rock forward on the left foot and then close the sequence to the right. Men will generally use the forward basic movement and women the back basic movement when dancing. However, everyone may use the front basic movement when dancing to a salsa dance workout.

Add arm bands to the workout. As you are doing your basic salsa dance steps you can increase your workout with arm bands. The arm bands will help you burn more calories and really work your arms while you are working out. You can also add other movements like kicks, leg lifts, and punches as you feel comfortable. Add arm weights to up the burn!

If you want to do a salsa workout but you don't like the idea of dancing along to a DVD then consider going to your local gym. Many times gyms offer salsa dance workout classes. Just find out when the next class is and sign up. You can attend a salsa workout in person and not only will you learn how to do a salsa workout but you will also make new friends!

Another fun way to do a salsa workout is to go to a local salsa club! You will have so much fun dancing salsa that you will forget you are getting a workout. This is perhaps the best way to get a good salsa workout because you will have fun, get to know others, and you can get your partner involved!
